Welcome Back!

Welcome back blogger friends : ) How was your Christmas and your New Years Eve? Did you have a great time making new memories with your favorite people, eating, and taking photos? Was Santa good to you? Did you have an awesome first kiss at midnight on Saturday? I was able to enjoy all of the above!

The last two weeks were fun and went by waaaay too quickly! I had a great time visiting with some of my favorites, we got to move into our new place, I received some great gifts, and we even made it through the moving weekend without any major snags [it was supposed to rain AND we weren't really sure the new couch would fit through the new front door--but no issues!].
Yes, I need a nap after the holidays! via
Today I'll be back at work for 4 days in a row....after all of my time off, 4 days seems like an eternity! Let's hope that it doesn't drag by!

I hate to make this short and sweet, but I have to run - I have tons to do to get started on an awesome 2012! I promise to do a better update soon (including a few details about a meet up with a few sweet bloggers, Alison and Cambron, at Blogger Blitz Nashville)!
Here's a sneak peak of our Christmas morning.
[This picture was developed from film (not a memory card)!]

Happy Tuesday!

12 by 2012 Update

Do you guys remember when I told you I was participating in the 12 by 2012 challenge?
Well, I updated the list today. Check out my progress HERE!

Hope you're having a fabulous Christmas week : )

Favorite Things...

I thought I would take a second to share a little Christmas goodness with you all by talking about my favorite things of Christmas. I got the inspiration from Dayna [her version] and she got HER inspiration from Katelyn [here]. Go check out their posts and share your own!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Egg not please. I could have hot chocolate anytime, but egg nog around the holidays is the best!
via
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
I have never, ever heard of Santa not wrapping presents! Please don't tell me that families do that...it takes the fun out of opening the gifts!

3. Colored lights on the tree/house or white?
It varies. Sometimes our family is in the mood for colored and sometimes they like white better. I love the large bulb lights, so I'll probably have those on the outside of my house someday. As for the tree, I think I like white unless I need color to go with the theme : )
via
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Only if it's hanging over this guy...or my Ryan. Whichever ; ) But really, I would hang it if I found it myself....it's usually pretty overpriced so I don't buy it.
via
5. When do you put your decorations up?
When I was living at home, we always put them up right after thanksgiving. Ryan's family does that too and we'll probably do the same thing next year when we get to decorate.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
Nothing really jumps out at me here...mostly because I like it all. Turkey is delish and I basically live on baked good during November and December.

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
Probably the Christmas celebrations at my grandmother's house when I was a kid. Before all of my Dad's brothers and sisters grew apart (and when all of us grandkids were still pretty little), we would all cram into her house and eat and just pile on top of one another just to enjoy the holiday together. Plus, she had the most massive tree ever! I loved that thing and the smell of that cheap, messy tinsel she covered it with : )

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I think I was about 6. I didn't tell anyone at the time, but I realized that "Santa" had the same handwriting as my Mom.Call me Sherlock!

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Growing up and up until I left for college, yes. Now, when I celebrate with Ryan, no. We save it all for Christmas morning now. It's SO hard that way!

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
I've only ever decorated with a variety of ornaments from over the years. Childhood and collectible ornaments are what I'm accustomed to.

11. Snow! Love it or dread it?
If I don't have to drive in it, I love it! If I have to get out and slide around, I hate it.

12. Can you ice skate?
Yup. [But I never said I was good!]

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
My favorite gift is definitely the diamond necklace Ryan gave me last year.
It meant a lot to me and always will. I was SUPER surprised and I know how much it meant to him to give it to me.
via
14. What is the most important thing about the holidays for you?
The most important things to me are family and giving. I love being around family and making new memories with my favorite people. I also love giving to people who are the closest to me and that need it.
via
15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?
As I said, I basically live on baked goods...there are few sweet things I can turn down this time of year!

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
My favorite holiday tradition used to be opening a gift on Christmas eve and getting new PJs. Hopefully over the course of the Christmas and next Christmas I can start a few new traditions : )

17. What tops your tree?
Growing up it was always a star or an angel. I imagine when I start decorating a tree it will be something neutral.

18. Which do you prefer--giving or receiving?
Giving, of course! There's just something about picking the perfect present for someone, or getting someone something that they've had their heart set on.

19. Candy Canes: yuck or yum?
Yuck. I can handle one or two a year and that's about it.

20. Favorite Christmas show?
How about favorite movie(s)? Home Alone 1 & 2. I en bought them on DVD. Yup, I said it. I LOVE them!

21. Saddest Christmas song?
I don't know. I don't like listening to sad Christmas songs. Sort of defeats the purpose, no?

22. What is your favorite Christmas song?
Feliz Navidad! There's a very upbeat part of the song that Ryan's brother and I joke about so I always laugh and enjoy that song the most of all!

Thrifty Tuesday

Hey ladies! I know I can't be the only one who waited until the last minute to organize their holiday wardrobe choices, right? I've thought about outfit options a ton, but I never acted on any of them. Today I realized that with all of the attention I was giving my NYE outfit, I neglected to think about my Christmas Eve mass outfit. I decided today that I definitely don't have the right outfit, so I did a little monitor window shopping at lunch. As usual, I searched for a great dress at a [great price]! Here are the cute dresses I found....they're pretty affordable and great for last minute options!
With the exception of the belted cream dress (#2), all dresses are around or below $50.

Wouldn't any of these options look great with tights and a cute pair of short black booties or a great pair of boots? I want one of each, please!

The perfect opportunity to use my [current] favorite sparkly dress to create an amazing outfit. If I had it my way, I would wear this for NYE! I still haven't finalized an outfit for that night...so for now I'll live vicariously through my Friday's Fancies post : )

National Cupcake Day

I can't believe that I went almost the whole day without knowing what this date in history REALLY means.....NATIONAL CUPCAKE DAY! I feel like a total failure. I love cupcakes. I love sweets (have you read the title of my blog?). I can't live with myself much longer....I have no choice but to stop on the way home to grab a cupcake or twenty two.

P.s. Obviously if if it took me until well after 4 p.m. to find out that it was National Cupcake Day I must have been pretty busy (which I was), so needless to say, I've been too busy to finish a real blog post. Maybe if I survive the twenty cupcakes tonight I'll post something. But until then, I leave you with this....

What I Wore Wednesday~Comfy Edition

Hello again! Yup, I'm posting twice in one day! I just have so much to share : ) This time around I'm doing another What I Wore Wednesday post....the comfy edition! The past few days our office has been terribly cold, so I decided that enough was enough. I had to dress warm and it had to be comfy. So, this is what I got....
Grey Sweater: Hollister, Long sleeve blue
shirt: Old Navy, Jeans: Marshalls,
Shoes: boat shoes
The grey sweater/shirt is at least 4 years old
and a friend of mine owned it before I did!
It's super comfy though.
I actually thought I was tired of this shirt for this season....I usually just wear a tank under it and leave it at that. BUT, since I needed to be warm, I decided to add a long sleeve shirt under it and it worked perfectly to add warmth and to switch the look up a little. I'll admit this look is nothing special, but I was proud of myself for "shopping my closet" to figure out something different for myself.

Check out the rest of the WIWW outfits here!

Cold Hands Warm Hearts Swap 2011

Hey guys! Hope you're enjoing this beautiful day! I hope it's just as pretty where you are as it is here in TN. The high today will be close to 70 (insert surprised face).
Speaking of the weather, I particpated in this year's Cold Hands Warm Hearts Swap party--hosted by Sandy a la Mode and Much Love illy! As a part of the swap, we each get a new pair of gloves to keep our hands [and heart] warm, along with a few other goodies. Even though I didn't get to use my gloves this morning, I have been using them a lot lately! They're especially great for driving : ) I've been looking forward to showing you the goodies that Mindy from [Marigold Road] sent my way....sooo, here they are!
I was so excited to get this package..
And so was the dog! Hehe
A cute card with a nice handwritten note, my fav!
It was great getting to know another blogger!
We left the house to go to the Christmas light event
and I wore them as soon as we left!
Both the headband and the gloves : )
Non-iPhone pic to capture the details! Love the green!
They're as soft as they look!
Aren't they cute? Mindy made the headband [here's her Etsy shop] and the gloves came from another cute little Etsy shop [Makings of Shanna Tice]. Be sure to check both of them out...you might find a cute last minute Christmas gift idea : )

P.s. Check out the rest of the swaps here!

Christmas Ramblings

I knew today was going to be a long day even before it got here. Needless to say, it has and will continue to require a lot of coffee to get through it. Coffee works wonders for me! I can drink a cup and get stuff done. Rinse and repeat. The only bad thing about so much coffee (and an empty stomach) is that at some point I start to feel an ittsy bit scatter brained. That point is riiight. abbbouuut. Now. So, today's post might sound a little like a ramble. But oh well, at least there are pretty pictures, right? : )

Since I'll be moving the week of Christmas I haven't made much of an attempt to decorate. No tree. No cute snowmen around the house. No ornaments (except my wreath). I'm actually okay with this for the most part. The only thing I hate about it is that Ryan and I aren't decorating in our first home together. But even that isn't a HUGE deal because we helped to decorate at his parents house. Either way, as a girl who loves to decorate and be creative, I couldn't help but to dream about how I would decorate if I could....
I love the tree & the living space

I love the natural look/burlap!

LOVE the pine cones :)

And I love the bows here!

Also, how cute are these pups?? I'm not sure I could ever pull this off with our dog, but these guys are adorable!

I have loved seeing all of the decorations around the blog world and Pinterest! Out of all of the ideas, burlap is definitely my fav! What's your favorite/must have decoration?

P.s. Check out all of the goodies in Natasha's link up here [Schue Love Blog]. I didn't link up, but these recipes will definitely help you with your holiday baking : )

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Mine was pretty great : ) Lots of relaxing and snuggling with the boy between Friday and Saturday. I couldn't get enough of being wrapped up with a blanket on the couch with Ryan. It was so cold....I hate going out because I have to put what seems like 20 layers on just to stay warm! On Sunday the weather got a little nicer and the temp was up around 50 so we ventured out to run some errands and such. Although I did get dressed up for a date on Saturday night (which was amazing-sushi!), the rest of the weekend my outfits didn't get past this point....
Weekend by thesweetashleylife (<~~~Click to view items)
I had to have my scarf, boots, and wool socks. Yes, I even asked if I looked like a teeny bopper, with my boots and skinnies.....Ryan assured me that I could 'pull it off'. Haha I'm not sure if I'm happy with that or sad! Either way, I stayed warm!

Even though we spent a lot of time at home, we still had some fun! We drank this season's first batch of eggnog (someone might have spiked it...), ate pizza, watched movies (Perfect Host, which was pretty good) and laughed at some SNL goodness. I even made two more wreaths yesterday to ship out. So, add productive to the list!

This morning I've been trying to figure out my holiday schedule. Between figuring out time off from work, figuring out a moving schedule, figuring out the time we'll be spending with family (here and in KY), plus all of the normal stuff--I can't keep track of it all! We'll start moving late next week so I have a ton to do between now and then BUT I'm super excited about seeing everyone between now and the end of the year!

Oh yea, have any of you seen these funny pics of Christopher Walken? I find them randomly and I always crack up! I can't be the only one....right?!
A friend sent this one...

What did you do this past weekend? Are you getting excited about the holidays?

Friday's Fancies~Holiday Party!

Oh my gosh, is it true...is it really Friday?? We made it! I feel like this week has been YEARS long! Shew, I am ready for and need the weekend. I can't wait to relax, see a few friends and get my craft on! I am happy to celebrate this Fancy day of the week with my Friday's Fancies post. This week's theme is Holiday Party [check out the other outfits and/or participate here]! Who wouldn't love dressing up just to grab drinks and mingle with friends or co-workers? This girl could go for that ANY day : )
Holiday Party by thesweetashleylife [<~~click to view items!]
What would you wear to a holiday party? Our company is having a luncheon, not a party, so no dressy office party outfit for me this year! It was so so so hard not to pick a sparkly, shiny outfit this week! I thought I should save that idea for a NYE post since that's all I talk about every time I see a dress with sparkles!

I hope your Friday is going well!

What I Wore Wednesday~Fall

Hey hey hey! I haven't done a What I Wore Wednesday post in a while, so I thought I would join in on the fun over at The Pleated Poppy today! [See my first two--here & here]
This outfit was my favorite from last week. I was SUPER comfy and the colors combined with the boots made me feel fall themed cute! When does comfy and cute not sound like a winning match? I am a total lover of skinny jeans and boots (but who isn't?) and can't get enough of multi-color layers!
Burnt Orange/Red-ish Sweater: F21, Long sleeve green shirt:
Old Navy, Cami: Charlotte Russe, Jeans: Target,
Boots: Blowfish Shoes
Although it doesn't look like it, I am wearing these boots. LOVE them!

Although pairing a sweater with boots and skinny jeans is pretty simple, I thought I'd share some (P)inspiration! Here's a pin from Pinterest of a similar, dressier version of my outfit!
via

Hope you're having a great Wednesday....remember, it's hump day!

P.s. That painting in the background of my outfit picture is homemade (Nashville skyline). Check it out here!

P.p.s. Is anyone else having trouble with their blogger? Over the last few days, each time I follow someone new it doesn't 'stick'. I will look for the new blog on my manage list and it isn't there. AT ALL! Boo.
